Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
